My earthenware tiles and vessels are narrative vignettes of interior and exterior landscapes, creating a framework of inquiry into the ways urban culture and wild places touch different aspects of our emotional lives. They draw heavily on imagery of natural history, wilderness, architecture, dreams and memories. They reflect iconography of growing up on the east coast, and an adult life spent mostly in the Pacific Northwest. The pieces are slab-built, carved in detail with very small tools, painted with acrylic and oils and finished with a wax patina. In addition, I make giclee prints of some of the larger tiles.
